A message from Tulku about our new 2016 online teachings

Dear Dharma Friends,

Tashi Delek!!

Having returned from my personal winter retreat in Pemakod, I now look forward to leading some Dharma study through Online Teachings. As sangha members, the way in which we engage in Buddhadharma is through study and practice. Through study of Dharma, one not only attains knowledge but also inspiration for one's practice. Then, by putting what one has learned though study into practice, one attains the true Wisdom that liberates, and which benefits all beings.

From childhood, my life has been dedicated to the study and practice of Buddhadharma, and that continues to this day. Based on my own confidence, and some experience in Dharma that could be beneficial to others, I began the Online Teachings last year with a course on Words of my Perfect Teacher, reaching out to many. This year we will continue with teachings on Bodhicaryavatara, a crucial text for understanding the very essence of our spiritual practice. Therefore, I warmly invite you to join us for this discussion, which will begin in April.

After this course, I intent to continue our Online Classes with the study of the sacred Dzogchen texts that are listed on the Odiyana Institute website. One must at least have a basic understanding of these subjects in order to practice Vajrayana Buddhism in a true sense. Likewise, in the near future, for those of you who wish to deepen your understanding in vast and profound Buddhist philosophy, we will continue on to study such texts as Mipham's Beacon of Certainty and Gateway to Knowledge, The Mahayana Uttaratantra Shastra, the Guhyagarbha Tantra, and others.

Ever since I was introduced to these subjects, I have had the great fortune to spend much time studying and reflecting on their meaning, as well as teaching these texts to monastic and lay practitioners alike. Now in the west, it is my aspiration that all the circumstances be gathered to share these timeless teachings with those who are genuinely interested in Buddhadharma and its practice. May our discussions on these teachings enlighten and expand our minds into the sublime ocean of wisdom, for the benefit of all beings.

With best wishes always,

-Tulku Orgyen

First Online Teaching Course of the year 2016

Teaching on Bodhicaryavatara or Bodhisattva's Way of Life

By Shantideva

Shantideva's classic treatise, the Bodhicaryavatara has been the most widely read, cited, and practiced text in the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This precious text has been a primary source in Tibetan Buddhist literature on the cultivation of altruism and the Spirit of Awakening.

A six week online course on this text will begin on April 7th.

The course will meet every Thursday evening at 6PM Pacific Time and will conclude on Thursday May 12th. Each class will begin with a short meditation, followed by teaching and discussion, and will conclude with the dedication of merit.

Participants will have opportunity to ask questions during class via web chat. There will also be a chance to schedule a short private interview about dharma practice (not personal issues) with Rinpoche for those who would like to do so. If you miss a class, you can watch the recording later.

To register, please contact dharmateachings108@gmail.com before March 15th.

Tuition for the course is $108. We will send you a Paypal request for the tuition when you register.

We will use the Padmakara translation of this text, which can be ordered through the publisher here: http://www.shambhala.com/the-way-of-the-bodhisattva-5163.html . It is also available through Amazon and other bookstores.
